Itinerary:

Day 1:
Welcome to Sumba – Waingapu – Melolo
Arrival to Waingapu – the largest town of the island and the main trading harbor (flight ticket to Waingapu can be arranged on request). Your guide will meet and greet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Later we will drive along the north coast for about 60 km to Melolo. On the way we will admire the undulated landscape of dry savannah dotted with cashew and teak trees. The journey will take us to Pau and Praiyawang tribal villages. Here we will traditional houses with high-peaked, thatched roofs, learn about Marapu ancestral beliefs and customs, and discover megalithic tombs. Return to the hotel for a rest.

Day 2:
Sumba – Waikabubak (B)
Today we will take a trip to the western part of the island to explore the Anakalang region. We will stop in remote, tribal villages of Waibakul and Pasunga to see the finest megalithic Royal Tombs and ornamental graves. The locals will tell us about Marapu ancestral spirits, protecting those, who believe in them. In the afternoon, we will drive to Waikabubak to visit the local market.

Day 3:
Sumba – Bondo Kodi – Ratenggaro (B)
After breakfast, we will continue exploring the western Sumba. Our trip includes a visit in Ratenggaro and Bondo Kodi village, where we can see the locals carving wooden handicrafts, traditional music instruments and decorations. The friendly villagers will gladly show you the arduous process of weaving Ikat textiles. Sumbanese Ikats are known for their bold, animistic designs and considered the finest of the whole Indonesia. Next, we will find some serenity on one of the pristine Sumbanese beaches, swim in the turquoise waters of Savu Sea and relax.

Day 4:
Sumba – Bali/Jakarta (B)
After leisurely breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport for your return flight to Bali or Jakarta. At your request we can connect this tour with another program. Farewell to Sumba Island.

Our prices are quoted in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) per person based on twin share accommodation (2 people in 1 room) and valid on regular season. For payments in other currency (Euro or US Dollar) the exchange rate of the invoice day will apply.
